Action in ouds

Hey guys,

I've measured my oud's action at the nut and bridge, and obtained the following data,

Nut - 2 mm

Bridge - 10 mm

This is too high isn't it?

I've thought on sending my instrument to a luthier, and which modifications do you think my oud should undergo to remedy this problem? I've thought on putting an ebony veneer for example.

My oud is turkish.

Thank you.

Hi nouphar!

The place for measure the action is at the nut and at the neck joint .
The best action is approx... Nut 0,5 mm and neck joint 3mm. Probaly you will need to sand the nut for adjust the action at the nut !

Merci Raby,

I've measured the action at the neckjoint and it's 6 mm.

The total would be, nut - 2 mm and neckjoint - 6 mm.

I've visited your page, it's great.

Thank for the dompliment !

Maybe you can also down the string at the bridge . Loosen the string and move the loop of the strings down at bridge !
