Hi albakaa! Maurice Shehata is a good place to start, and depending on how long your relatives are in Egypt, he might have time to make you up one according to your specs, including woods, and within your budget. Try contacting Mike ( the main man behind this great website) about it.
good luck mate!

what a lovely video! are there schools or places as Fathi Amin asks where the making of the oud is now taught?
Interesting seeing Nasseer Shamma without his trademark beard! some thought provoking questions raised as well by those featured in the clip. :)

Also check out the article published in Al-Ahram Weekly Online, 1-7 November 2001, Issue No. 558 " The Heart of the Craft" (also posted by Dr. Oud on his website).
The article features Fathi Amin and Ibrahim El-Masry and his workers as well as musical instrument shop owner Nasser Mustafa.
Sadly, the report paints a gloomy picture for the future of the Egyptian oud as the Egyptian government - unlike governments of other countries apparently - has not established institutions to keep alive the craft and traditions of oud making and seems to have no interest in doing so or in supporting the surviving but aging master luthiers. What is at the root of the problem here? What can be done to preserve the traditions before it is too late?
