Turkish oud

Hi everyone,

My first post on this forum, thx to all for these precious informations about the Oud.

I've found this store on ebay Anatolia Store.
What do you think about these oud (apparently not very excessive I think) for a beginner in Oud ?

I would especially like to know your opinion on this one, is it to expensive?

thanks,

Welcome to the forum Kurdo! If you are looking for a good Turkish oud for a beginner, have a look at Haluk Eraydin's ouds. Quite a few of us got started on a 'student' oud by Haluk and have found his ouds well made and great value for money. He is a very helpful and friendly man to deal with as well.

Hi Kurdo,

The oud pictured, from what I can tell, is a very well made classic style turkish oud. But unless someone else on the forums has ordered one, then I'd stay away from them. I'd go with MatthewW's advice, and get a Haluk. Otherwise, you're taking a big chance. Good luck.

Regards...Paul

Your profile says you live in Sweden then you can get good Turkish beginner oud in Stockholm. One shop down at Södermalm have a wide range of Turkish ouds and there are always ads on blocket/eniro with ouds for sale. Give it a try.

Best wishes

Thanks Ronny, that´s interesting. Do you know if the shop you mentioned has other Turkish instruments for sale, too? Sazes, tanburs?

Thank you all for your help and advisers

Hi Ronny!

The problem with the store in Södermalm is that the owner smokes inside the store, all his instruments are contaminated by the smell. Another problem is the humidity / the air in the store. The instruments are not stored in the right way.

Hi Kurdo, yes he do smoke a lot (a tobacco store after all) and instruments are not stored the best way (wall decorations) and cold air can enter trough the entrance door but I've played several of his instruments and I've never noticed any major problems with them.
I know couple of guys that are pleased with their beginner Turkish ouds.
The price range is on the lower range but sometimes he have some very interesting older instruments like a very old classic Kemance and I remember an old oud as well.
Arto, yes he has Tanburs and different sizes of saz as cura and divan also santurs and various percussions as tombak, daf, darabukka.

Best wishes

Thanks again! Ronny or Kurdo, would you know the name and contact information (address, telephone, and/or email?) for the shop? Could be a nice one to visit next time in Stockholm.

Greetings from Helsinki,
Arto

Hi Arto,

Mr. Haluk making very good quality acoustic and electric sazs.2 months before I was ordered from him.My electric saz with 4 course strings just arrived 3 days ago.
If you need saz-baglama,I recommend highly to order from him.

Thanks Serhan,
I own a Haluk beginners oud and am happy with it, so I know how great person Mr Eraydin is to buy from... What I am most interested these days would be to get a mizrapli tanbur. I love the music, but have never handled the instrument, so it would be good to have real life experience first before buying one.

PS: Thanks Ronny for the address!

best wishes,
Arto

Hej Kurdo!

Best wishes
