Michael Moussa Oud

Here are some shots of a beautiful Michael Moussa oud. Michael is probably one of the best unknown oudmakers in the world today. He is originally from Egypt and now resides in the UK. I believe there are photos of one of his ouds owned by Jean Luc on the forums. Anyway, this oud is owned by Kelly who asked me to post these photos. A sound file is forthcoming.

Thanks Mike and Awad for your kind comments and special thanks for Michael Moussa who was very patient and generous with his time. Although he does not make to order he helped me choose to suit my style( such as it is) and temperament. It is indeed a lovely instrument. Its character both warm/responsive with good projection. I shall try to put some audio mp3 soon. Awad,;) we'll have to hook up soon for a tune.

No problem Kelly. It was my pleasure, and I was happy to see that Michael and his work is featured here.

Hi all
I've seen one of Michael Moussa's Ouds in cairo and they are meticulously made. He's an MD by profession but makes ouds and neys to continue his family tradition.

Here is his website http://www.magicstrings.co.uk/

Hello Kelly

Nice looking oud - good to see more udis in the UK, I,m down in Portsmouth and there is also Matthew W who is Cambridge way. If you're ever down this way call in!!

Its also great to know of a UK luthier that makes ouds - I'm up to Yorkshire now and then, I grew up there, Mr Moussa is in Barnsley by the look of it.

Cheers

Leon

Thanks Leon

I'm trying, with Mike's help, to get a sound file up.
Michael doesn't make to order but produces about three a year as he is a full time MD in Barnsley. The different ouds of his i tried all have very individual characters. This one is particularly warm sounding and almost 'cello like on the G and A.

Thanks for the invite. maybe a Summer excursion.

Regards
Kelly

Got the sound file. Will get it on here after work today. Between the 3 of you guys, plus a number of other UK members...you guys need to get an oud summit together.

Barnsley!! I'd never expect to find an talented Egyptian oud maker up north in that town! Looking forward to the sound file Mike. Some of us in the UK will have to have a summit and a pint soon, and try to visit M Mossa if he is cool with visitors. Would love to check out his ouds in person!

Thanks Mike for your help. I've just downloaded Audicity which is easier to convert to MP3 format so I'll try to put some more sound files up soon. All comments greatfully received.

A summit and a pint sounds good Matthew.
