Yep, he has his own way to display his fingers on the fingerboard. His own technic !! He has his specific tuning also. All strings are 4th, using
violin technic with his left hand.

I don't see complication instead I see inovation, creativity, and high technical skills. Polat is contibuting to the diversity of Oud way of playing,
which I think is a good thing.

man I like his style and as I said before it is unique
but the complication will be for those who are playing oud in classic styles , it will take millions of years for them to learn this way

Hey guys,
I really dont like it. Im not denying he has amazing skill, but the oud tone isnt there. I couldnt listen to the whole paganini, alot of it wasnt
acturate and I dont get the point. Is it a gimmic? Useless acrobatics perhaps? This goes for alot of players these days.
Im not against virtuosity or innovation, innovation is usually for the better. I dont see the fingering is comfortable and it doesnt do anything for
me or the oud playing world, unless we all want to play Western music on the oud, thats not innovation, thats what I call a disaster!

Mehmet's tuning from low pitch to high pitch:
C# F# B E a d
From what you see of him on the internet, videos, etc...this is just only a fraction of what he is about as a musician. To understand his technique,
it's worth it to sit down with him and have him explain it...it's pretty deep, very original, can be quite painful (ouch!) but best of all, he is all
of 26 years old I think and knows SO much about makam and Turkish music...just wait to see what he will be capable of. He's been studying indian music
for the past year in Rotterdam. He's got a great future ahead of him.

More seriously, the arab nation are listining to wassuf and here is some of the outcome. Polat may have an influence on young people in Turkey. Would
you imagine what would be the outcome in superstar in turkey? Have you asked yourself why in Turkey there is a huge amount of people playing good oud
and saz? Simple, the standart is elevated, when the nation rise the standart people like Polat appears on the scene of music.

Pathetic! And I don’t mean the “performances” by these poor unfortunate folks who have so little understanding of music that they think they may
become an overnight star, without having put in the work and time to learn the craft.
What I find pathetic is that these poor people make it into the studio in the first place. Any TV station carpark attendant could have identified the
fact that they have nothing to offer and turned them away before they make a fool of themselves in front of a mass audience. So why is it that these
commercial television stations feel it is necessary to put them in front of a camera and a panel of judges and humiliate them in front of the entire
viewing audience of their country?
These folks are clearly not aware that they lack the necessary musical skill to succeed. They put on their best outfit, tell their mums and dads and
wives and children and neighbours to watch their big moment on national television. And then they are humiliated in the worst possible way.
Is this entertainment? I guess it must be because it apparently appeals to so many people who just love to laugh at other’s misfortune. A little
like the crowds at public executions.
I think it is pathetic and an assault on human dignity. I say all of the above in my capacity as a forum member, not as a moderator. But, in my view,
providing forum links to this garbage is an insult to our intelligence and dedication to our art as musicians and performers.

Oudism, my last sentence appears to aim my anger at you. That was not my intention. My anger is with the germs who produce this stuff. There have been
several similar links to this type of material from other forum members.
I strongly feel that we, as a community of serious musicians, should not perpetuate this exploitative material by providing links to it. Sorry if my
response inadvertently singled you out.
These forums are owned by Mike and all members are free to post whatever they like (within reason). But other members (like me) also have the right to
express an opinion.
