One of the most beautiful pieces to learn and to play.
thanks Kata for posting, just a small correction, this sama'i won the award of The Arab Music Foundation in 1974 (he was 24 year old).
The khanas are rather easy to learn, what is difficult is to master the soulful side and the finesses as played by Marcel Khalife.
The real challenge is the Taslim in terms of speed but mostly in term of rhytm, you won't believe how a 10/8 is composed this way, a true
tour-de-force from a talented composer.
In my opinion, a must learn sama'i (and am still working on it )

This is one of my favourite pieces of music on the oud. It's my mobile phone ringtone too 
I have the version from the CD: Caress, that is slightly different (his sons play with him). Check out the pieces called Granada and Caress as well.

Hello people.
I have been obsessed with this samaii. for the whole day now I have been trying to play it.
Iam getting stuck in at the second part after the taslim.
thats the down side of not reading notes.
But on the other hand I may practice to play this peice with reading the music. ( i know how to read music but I learnt while studying trombone so its
not in the same key therefore I have a hard time doing the transition)
ANYBODY want to learn this peice with me?

Samir, a suggestion: get Finale software or any other software able to read music. You put the notes and the tempo and the computer plays it.There are
many softwares in the market. It's easier for you instead of translation by yourself. When you feel that there is a hard passage that you cannot
execute, you decrease the tempo speed. Once you get it correctly you practice it on a high speed tempo and so on. For example, you make the computer
playing the 10/8 setting the metronome at 60. Once you feel you're playing the music correctly on 60, you practice it on a higher metronome speed.
Another way, I can post a slow and a fast speed of passages you don't feel getting them. In this way fast passages played by Marcel, once played
slower are easier to catch by ear.I'll try doing that once I get home

sorry I was in a rush when I wrote that.
perhaps I should be clearer.
it helps of course... and I see the use of this as a nice tool. but I am yet to actually try the program so when I do I will let you know.
thanks again.
in the end reading the notes is probably a better idea then remembering the peices by heart.

cool ! The program will help you also to know how to read notes. When you do note inputs into the program from any sheet of music you will see the way
he's playing them. You then understand the meaning of the note. Now for this sama3i in particular, the quarter tone you cannot put it. You will hear
it Kord instead of bayat when you put the Eb not half b. But anyways, you can practice it E half b on Oud afterward.

yes, this samai'i bayati Marcel Khalifeh is indeed a most lovely composition. Your take on it Samir is really good, considering your'e not depending
on reading the score and probably figuring it out by ear, and playing it faster then the recording, which makes it even more challengeing. I'm trying
to learn this sami'i bit by bit off the score, and put it all to memory (thanks for posting it katakofka) give me year or so! hey, maybe we can do a
version together one day Samir!
