Iranian Oud CD - Mohammad-Reza Ebrahimi
Hi All,
I am listening right now to an Iranian oud CD, "Sanâ" by Mohammad-Rezâ Ebrâhimi. Iranian solo oud CDs seem rare, and I was excited when I saw this
one. It's pretty good.

If anyone was able to scan the liner notes though, I'd be eternally grateful. I've downloaded it from itunes, so there shouldn't be any copyright
issue. The track titles are obviously very instructive, listing the dastaghs and points of modulation. I presume the liner notes explain this in
greater detail, so they'd be very useful.

The traditional Abdolvahab Shahidi oud player and singer is probably a really great option to understand
Oud in the context of traditional music. Many of the new players including Hossein Behroozinia deviate
from the traditional style and follow the newer Contemporary / World Music feel. Shahidi has a great
Solo oud CD of Dastgah music from the Masters of Traditional Persian Music CD series easily available

Now there are also a few women that came from the University of Tehran and played in large ensambles with
top musicians, they are really great players following the Taditional Persian Art music style on Oud (not barbat)
No Solo CDs from them yet though.

Mohammad-Reza Ebrahimi is a really nice player to listen to. I enjoy his music as well!
I think this is interesting that you point out the women upcoming.... I wondering this same thing because as a new player, I am finding it is the
women I am best learning from currently. I have learned more Persian style from studying and watching some women players than I have learned from any
of the men to date.
I am wondering if women have played all along but have never really been known. Maybe all these great players out there have their wives teaching
them- ha ha!
As we know, Yasamin Shahhosseini has one album out and it is very good. I enjoy studying and 'trying' different pieces from her album from time to
time... I also like Negar Bouban but she doesn't seem to have any album out yet that i can find.
Are there any others we should be listening out for?

I would also "third" the Ebrahimi recommendation. His album is solid, and should be text book listening material.
As for women Oud/Barbat players, we need more of them. Many of the women Oud/Barbat players I've seen play exceptionally well and I see potential for
great contribution to Oud art and music in the future.

I just got the Ebrahimmi album myself as per the rec of this threar and I must say it is amazing. Track 7, 'Piece in Shur' is soul-bending (that's
good). I can't stop listening.

An update to this old thread. MohammadReza Ebrahimi is a rather prolific composer. Besides the great CD mentioned here, he has 2 other CDs that I've
seen. These are from minor Record Labels in Iran and as I see not readily available. I contacted one but have not heard back... trying to get these
from friends in Tehran. Yet, you can find about 23 pieces in his SoundCloud account spanning about 10 years about half are Oud, https://soundcloud.com/bita-vakili being a Tar player you can see his Oud technique is heavily influenced. He also has a book on Oud pieces,
again released by a small Iranian publisher. Maybe someone has and can scan into PDF on this thread.
From most of the modern Iranian players who are more subdued and less true to form (ie not following directly Persian Radif as their innovation
foundation) Ebrahimi really stands out
