Two Album CD Release Party - June 13, 2008 (NY)
Dear Friends,
It is with great pleasure that I announce my upcoming Two Album CD Release Party on June 13, 2008 at Alwan for the Arts in Lower Manhattan. The party will begin at 9 PM and will include a live performance of beautiful, rare Greek and Turkish
songs from the early 1900's with my wonderful group of musicians. We are very excited that it is nearly time to release these albums after all the
work we put into them, especially in our efforts to preserve the character of the original recordings.
Both CD's were recorded at the same time over a two month period, but each one has its own story to tell. "Στο
Καφεσλί Σοκάκι (Sto Kafesli Sokaki)" is a carefully arranged compilation of
traditional urban songs from Greece and Turkey by singers such as Antonis Dalgas, Roza Eskenazi, Rita Abadzi, and many more, and shows us how closely
related the cities on both sides of the Aegean have been over the years. "Ξύλινη Καρδιά
(Wooden Heart)" on the other hand, while including some similar repertoire in the second half of the CD, examines how the oud has been used in various
musical styles in the Aegean region, and includes some original instrumental pieces as well.

each, and a portion of the sales will go towards Alwan for the Arts, a non-profit arts organization. The albums will also be available online at the
