Hi Spyros...

This instrument that you mention seems to be some sort of long necked, strange body sized oud with mechanical tuners...Theres a couple of models available on the sukar website (see link), but as you can see the two versions, look quite different. I've seen a similar creature on Nazih Ghadban's website in some of the photos, perhaps Nazih would be a good person to ask. He's quite helpful and his English is good.

Dear Spyros:

Nashaat kar is an instrument that we Play in Aleppo long ago it is like the lavta, but with matalic strings , the name of this instrument comes from his Turkish inventor Nashaat, his dimensions are the same that lavta.

Nashaat Kar has no frets , its similar of oud, the strings is double and its like Cumbus strings or similar , we tuning it F,A,D,G,C,F....and the length is 60 Cm ,I say that thing about memory, I am not sure completely, the neck is longer than in the oud .

amazing, this was sounding really familiar so I ran to my Kalan "Masters of Turkish Music - Ud" CD and looked at the English translation for the ud master Udi Nes,et Bey. You can hear the instrument on the first CD, it sounds like a very high-pitched cumbus. Here it is word for word:

Udi Nes,et Bey (? -1930)
"The birth date of this artist, known as Arap Neş’et Bey, has unfortunately not been determined. His instrument, which greatly resembled the ud, was his own invention. Composed of a cümbüş neck attached to a lavta body, and dubbed the ‘Neşetkâr’, it was well-received and in demand in Anatolia. Although this is the instrument that inspired poet Yahyâ Kemâl Beyatlı to write the following lines, it is not known if the artist was Neş’et Bey*:
I went to a dicey neighborhood,
And was tormented by the man’s şerare
It would have been preferable to fall down
From the tall Tower of Beyazıt
Besides the two songs he composed, Neş’et Bey recorded more than ten taksims on 78s. The taksims in Rast and Yegâh, played here on the instrument called the ‘Neşetkâr’ or ‘Şerâre (pictured in the booklet), are from the collection of Fikret Bertuğ.
*A musician who Yahyâ Kemâl came across on the street told him he’d invented a musical instrument which he called ‘Şerâre’, and insisted on playing it for him. Finding no escape, the poet, after going to the man’s home and sitting through an extremely bad performance, at last managed to extricate himself from the house and wrote the quatrain."

I checked out the link and noticed the price was very low, only 150 euros; is this a normal price for a quality nashaat kar or is the market similar to ouds where you find low priced wall hangers or more expensive quality instruments by luthiers?

Hi Zulu,

I was also surprised by the price. The buyer says it's a Ibrahim Sukar. I asked for a photo to see the label, I'm still waiting...

Update

he says the label is no longer on the instrument, but I can come and try it. I'm too far, can't go and try.
Can't say more about the instrument.
I don't find this model at http://www.oudsukar.com/New/en/products_en.php?cat=nash , maybe an older one, maybe fake
