Aboud Khawaja's Oud Technique

Hey all,

I've been keeping an eye on Aboud Khawaja's private party recordings and youtube videos.. I'm really impressed by his oud playing skills (which I think he aquired without any sort of music education)..

Can someone tell me what tuning he uses in the first clip?

Another good clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuZI63JgxBw&feature=related

I'm sorry if my questions on the board seem a little repetative (I'm still a beginner) :)) but the more I play oud, the more I feel enthusiastic to learn more and hear more..

Thanks

I've downloaded a whole "Jalsa/party" for him two days ago.. Believe me the playlist is still rolling!!

Just for the record, and an honest opinion.. I think this guy plays way better than Naseer Shammah (no comparison what-so-ever!!).. I will definately try to get some of his style in my playing excersices.. This dude is amazing!!

Bro, can you tell me where you got that Jalsa from? i owuld love to take a look at that.

just out of curiosity, what kind of Bahraini oud do u have and are there any good oud stores there other than the one on Ma'areth st? Cuz i have a friend who'll visit me soon from Bahrain, I've asked him for some strings, but the thing is that he doesnt know where to go get them.

Hi Comthe3!

I find the best resource for Khawaja's Jalas to be 3adany forums.. ( http://www.3adany.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=4f296d3d9da73c76850c... )
The jalsa I've downloaded lately is "Alba-btain" Jalsa.. Make sure you checkout the oud taqseem in the beginning of "Ya Monyati"..

As for my oud, I'm very happy with it!! It produces a really clear and soft sound, my friend (the first owner) used to tune it high (turkish tuning) without any problems.. When you hold the oud, you can feel how strongly put together it is.. very nice handcrafting and finishing (I wish I had some pictures to show you)..

You can reach the "Bahrain factory for musical instruments"@
Number on the oud label: 712-323
Alternative number (found in my phone book): +973-172-92994

You can also get your strings from them..

Let me know if have any questions about the oud,, I will try to borrow a camera to take some pics of it.. I never took any really!

Salam to you and all members
