Question on aquilas

To achieve a low tension, is it worth to get a GADGCF aquila set and dowtune it to EF#BEAD? From my own experience, you can get a very good DGADGC and a good CFGCFBb if you dowtune an standard EABEAD aquila set.

My aim is to get a low tension turkish tuning. I don't know if an aquila turkish light set is better or not than my idea.

Regards.

Tuning down may work depending on the oud's structure and string length. Each oud has it's own unique favorite tension, and experimentation is the only way to find the best guage for each string course. The worst that can happen from tuning down is a muddy sound. Tuning up is a different issue as the face and/or bridge can be over stressed if the tension gets to high, sometimes resulting is delaminating the bridge and/or the tail end of the soundboard.
