Gozenoglu

hello, I discovered that I had an oud hanging on my wall. I would love to learn more about it and possibly sell it. the label on the interior is as follows:

Gozenoglu Muzik Evi
A. Gozenoglu
her nevi telli sazlar vi teferruati yapim evi
merkez: galeri Gozenoglu - harbiye, meyva sokak no.1/1 - tel : 47 92 95
sube : uzun carsibasi no. 28/31, istanbul - tel: 22 95 13

the only clue I may have are that my grandparents worked in turkey during WWII and may have brought it back with them.

thank you

Levon Boğosyan Gözenoğlu (1900-1979) is an apprentice of Kirkor Kahyayan (1875-1933). The other apprentice is ONNÎK GARİFYAN (KÜÇÜKÜNER). Gözenoğlu made ouds and violins.

Why the "A" before the Gozenoglu?
Might not be Levon Bogosyan Gozenoglu?? A pic of the label would help.

Uh..the A before the Gozenoglu -- could it be Azniv Gozenoglu ?? Did his wife make ouds too ??

Sorry.....just running with the general Armenian-ness (Bogosyan, etc...) of the names.

I never looked for a label until now. Are mandolines indiginious to turkey?

No, they are indigenous to the Mediterranean region of Italy and North Africa to my knowledge. However, just as the violin and piano are played in other nations, so are mandolins.

Especially since the maker of the instrument is Armenian, the instrument is going to be worth something. Armenians are very talented with mandolins and it is a respected instrument amongst the community.

paulO, there are male Armenian names that begin with A such as my name Antronig (Antranig), Arsen, Ardash, Armenag, Ara etc. Why did you pick Azniv? :) :) :)
