Software for music sheets

Hello,

Does anyone knows if there is a software that can "translate" a turkish music sheet to arabic ?

p.e. A Rast on G (turkish) music piece to a Rast on C .

Thanks in advance

hello,

I have read that turkish music has to be lowered one fifth to correspond to the arabic tunning. Am I correct?
Perhaps then a software that allows to transpose to a 5th lower is what you need.

You may need more than one program, depending on the format the turkish file is in. PDF to music converts PDF files to midi, which can be read by most of the standard notation programs out there. Most notation programs can transpose easily.
The ottoman accidentals are different than the Arabic and there's no simple way to convert them, it depends on the maqam context. With a little practice you can figure it out though.

Here is the PDF to music download site:

http://www.myriad-online.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?lang=EN&prod=P...

and it works - amazing. :applause:
Just open the PDF file with this program and it plays it!

Well, Turkish just take it down 5 tones & fix the flats & sharps, no conection with this PDF player, but thanks Brian for the idea!

To work by ear you can use a program like transcribe to change tonality.
From a turkish tuning in Si Fa# Si Mi La Re, use an arabic tuning in bass Re Sol La Re Sol Do high, for me the better to play turkish way in arabic tonality.
Then change the tonality of the turkish piece of 3 semi tones higher.

Exemple, for a piece in Hicaz, it is played in La ( and you hear Si because oud tune one tone higher ), with 3 semitones higher you come to Hicaz arabic tonality in Re.

So turkish player plays a fourth lower than arabic player, and tune one tone higher.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

For notes, you can use sibelius, it transpose music. Brian Prunka is right it won't work dependind of the flats and sharps, but you can get an idea of intervals.
Now Sibelius take half flat and sharp but don't take all turkish commas.

Hope this may help.
Regards.

I am a beginner in oud but until now I was able to play all the turkish music one octave lower in my oud (arabic tuning). Hope I am not going against tradition:shrug:

It's possible, but you'll find the fingering sometimes awkward and you won't always get the range of notes you need, but if, as you suggested in your first post, you lower the pieces by a fifth, you'll be able to play them with the same fingering as you would use on a turkish oud (or more or less the same, depending on the exact tuning system). Claro que se ja nao hachas bastante complicada a vida... :D
