Finger pain?

Hi,

I want to start playing oud but I am really scared about tip of finger pain.

A lot of guitarist say they have pain at the beginning and after some callus arises on their tip of fingers.

These period seems me very unnatural and scary.

Did you, oudists, experience too much too much pain on tip of fingers?

It may depends on clearence between strings and keyboard. What's the distance(mm.) comparing guitar? more, less?

You should NEVER press to much with your 4 fingers, just as enough to "close" the string on the fingerboard (I liked the "keyboard" word).

You should NEVER press to much with your thumb!!!! so, no pain. less than guitar, usualy.

:))

and as we girls say, you have to suffer if you want to be beautiful.

The other things is that an oud doesn't have steel strings or frets as on a guitar.
You should have no problem at all, so don't worry.

Press lightly.

I've been playing the fiddle for forty years and sometimes get sore fingertips when I press too hard, usually when I'm playing loudly.

I've had an oud since April and limit my practice to save my fingertips.

It's easier to give advice than to follow it.:(

also try to use FINGER-EASE (A GUITAR STRING LUBRICAN'T )but it works on all kind of strings ,which should help reduce finger tenderness .
you can find it at music instruments places all over,it's cheap and help a little bit to reduce friction on ur fingers when moving them on strings .
i tried it and find it easy to use and IT WORKS.

I "eat" my fingers too and I have never ever had any kind of pain playing oud.

Maybe some people here have ouds with very high action on the strings but if you have a good oud it will have low and smooth action.
