Whirlwind Caprice for Solo Oud

Hey Guys,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l862RwJCdY

This is a piece I composed last year for solo oud. It really started out as a study (for myself) and is really on the technical side of the spectrum. It really requires a long stamina of the right arm and some interesting pick patterns. The middle section in particular is something I am developing further, holding a pattern under a melody. It is a guitar technique which is usually done with fingers, but here I experiment with the plectrum.

I really hope you guys enjoy and I hope some oud players can have a go at it. Looking forward to your comments...

All the best and keep ouding!

JT

ps. the filming is just an informal one at an oud conniesseurs place in Paris. So its not perfect :)

Interesting JT. Do you have the Notation? There are some technical parts I guess they are original on the Oud.
thanks for sharing

[I will be interested to see if you are still playing like this 25 years from now:D]

Joe, I'm with katakofka- if you have the notation and don't mind posting it, that would be cool.:airguitar:
best wishes, MW

Hey guys,

Still cleaning up and working on the score. I usually compose, learn it and score the music later. So will post soon, but the opening is proving to be quite rhythmically difficult with broken bars and certain phrasing.

Thanks for the comments,

JT

JT, that is one phenomenal performance !

Man.......it feels to me like running the 100 m race....but for 4 continuous minutes :)

As always, you never loose the awesome passion and feel for the oud, even when playing a great technical style.

I'd say, even with the scores made available, you gotta see JT himself playing it, as it is supposed to.

Loved it.
