Starting to consider selling my Fathi Amin Oud

Hi everybody,

as I wrote in http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=8794&pa... I checked out the seven courses construction on my Fathi Amin oud and became so convinced about it that I consider to order a seven course oud in not too far future.

Because my collection is getting to large, I also started to consider selling my Fathi Amin oud. I think it is quite precisely described in the thread above, as well with link to a little video. On my Myspace Page there is another video with the same oud in 6 course configuration that can easily be restored.

I'm not going to charge more than I paid myself which is 400 Euros plus shipping (of course ypu can pick it up near Freiburg, South Germany, if you prefer; this is certainly the safest way to have it unbroken, though I'd only consider insured shipping.)

Anybody interested?

Pleast feel free to ask me any question

best wishes
Robert

Hello Ohannes,
thanks for contacting me...

here are the links to Youtube (Video and SOundquality is less good than in MySpace, I think:
7 course stringing: (Daniel Mari Strings set plus Aquilla high ff strings)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0SA4TWiQCI

6 Course stringing (Hannabach trebles plus Aquilla basses):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idpgC-hUVMA

Also there is a nice mention of Fathi Amin in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpr9pXEni3I

The oud has 12 pegs, otherwise it would have been difficult to make it seven courses as I did (see last video and the last thread about it...

For the shipping to USA I have to do some research first - I'll come back to it and also with the measurements.

OK, so the only way to send it to USA within a reasonable price range is DHL international shipping - tha would cost around 100 Euro including packing material.

The first string is around 3 mm above the neck at the junction with the body (the bright line visible on the picture)

The neck width at nut is approx. 3,4 cm (1 inch is around 2,5 cm)

The neck with at junction with the body is approx. 5,8 cm

The open string lengt is 60 cm

The width of the sound board is approx 36

The length is from borrom to the neck junction approx 50,5 cm

The depth of the bowl (difficult to measure for me) is around 18-19 cm)

It has 19 ribs of what the seller called 'black walnut'. I don't believe this, but it's a dark wood anyway and it looks quite good. It could be indian rosewood, but I' not knowledgable enough to tell about the woods of this oud.

It has an original sticker inside (see the thread: http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=7829#pid492... ) and it has been confirmed from several sides that this oud is indeed made by Fathi Amion Senior (father, the elder).

So I hope I have provided all information I could - if there are still some question, please feel free to contact me.

Best wishes

Robert

The pegs on the picture above are not anymore in use.

The pegs are now as in the picture below, high quality rosewood pegs.

As I wrote, the 7 course setup can be undone very easily, the original bone nut for 6 courses is of course still there. The only thing that remains for further experimentatiuons is the extra hole in the bridge -
that doesn't diminish the sound at all...

Hello everybody,
after a workshop with Raed Khoshaba I decided to return to the six course state of this oud and to string ist in high f down to F und to continue to use it for a while;
So I'm not at all in hurry to sell it, but in case somebody is really interested in this oud built by Fathi Amin senior, please contact me.
I'm not so attached to it either - tough I thought it's much better than I believed, when I heard Raed Khoshaba playing on it for few times...
stay well, best wishes
Robert

PS it now looks like in the first picture again, only the tuning pegs are like below.
