Pegbox inner wall thickness
Hi all. Can anyone here tell me the desired thickness for the pegbox wall? I have cherry and curly maple pieces now glued togather, and need to know
what should be final thickness. Either you can use your ouds as reference, or maybe from Richard Hankey's book (which I have on order, and hasnt
arrived yet)

Hi,
6-7mm is very common. Strong enough to hold the pegs movement and strings tension.
Esthetically, nice to look at it.

It's important to have the grain of the pegbox wall perpendicular to the peg shaft. In other words, the pegbox wall must be flat grained. Otherwise
the pressure from pushing the tapered pegs in will split the wall.

Final thickness should be 6 mm. Your choice of using two different wood laminated is an excellent decision against cracking. Good luck

i use 7 mm pegbox wall that laminated 5 mm maple and 2 mm various wood.
