Rythm / Iqa' for Sa'alouni El Nass

Hi all.

I want to record Sa'alouni El Nass (Fayrouz) playing it on my oud. I would like to ask if anyone is willing to record for me the rhythm played in the song so I can overdub it. One or two measures with fairly decent recording quality and in the same tempo that the song is played is enough - I will try to make a loop out of it. I would highly appreciate it :)

Of course your will be given credit once posted on this forum.

Thank you in advance :)

I play darabuka and riq moderately competently. Can you send an mp3 of the song as I don't know it.

Thank you very much !

Sounds like maqsum to me - so should be straightforward. I'll try and do it over the weekend and get it you by early next week, if that's okay?

I don't recognize rhythms well. Of course you know better than me.
And sure take all the time you need. Please try to make it as clear and neat as possible so I can loop it.

Thank you again :)

Hi Hassan :)

I'd love to listen to the recording you have! Could you please post it here?

I am right now writing a clean music sheet for the song and will send it to you once it's done along with a midi file for you to practice it.

Thanks..

A Bientot :)

If your file is more than 1MB in size you cannot upload it in the forum here.
If it is the case, please upload it on http://www.wikifortio.com or just send it to my email and I'll upload it somewhere.

Hi Reda

The recording is done! I have saved it in .wav format but can convert it if it's more convenient for you. wav will give you the best quality though, as mp3 is lossy compression. The file is 36Mb so I can't post it on here. Do you have an e-mail address that I can send it to?

The file is so big because I have recorded several different sequences of maqsum in a variety of ways on several different instruments. I hope you find it useful.

regards
Michael

Hi Michael. That was fast :)

Wave format is great. My email is reda.aouad {at} gmail.com (you can find in the footer of my posts ;)), but I don't think you can upload more than 10MB or 20MB from a commercial webmail (hotmail, yahoo, gmail..). If you can't, try to upload it on some upload website.

Jan, my other half, is out this morning so I had the house to myself which gave me the opportunity to set up all the gear and stuff without her complaining about the mess!!!!

File is in two parts. First part is on it's way. Let me know when you get it then I will send the second - so as not to exceed your mailbox limit.

Thank you very much Michael. I received both parts. I listened to the first one.. it is more than what I need.. but it seems you enjoy it.

Now it's my turn to mess with my new Zoom H4n and Cubase which comes with it. I started working with Cubase but it seems that it will take some time for me to get used to it.. plus I need to wait till night to record my oud because of the noises from a nearby construction site.

So please be patient.. when I finish it I will definitely post it and update you.

Thank you again :)

Like I said in my email to you, my recording setup is pretty elementary. The mic I used is a SE1A condenser mic into a Tube MP valve preamp then straight into the line-in on my PC, and record using Audacity which is free and pretty good. I've just started using Reaper which is more sophisticated and supports VST plug-ins, but I'm still getting to grips with that. Has anybody else tried Reaper? Is it worth perservering with?

It may be more than you need but I thought I'd give you a variety of different options - you don't want to be constrained by only having a basic maqsum available to you. I wouldn't expect you to use everything in the files, but feel free to use as many different options as you want on different tracks.

Hi Michael.

Could you also send me your percussions recording about this nice song?
I'm still working on it, after listening the soundfiles in this thread and the other in the "members clips" around the theme and the story.....
I would really like to try to play upon percussions, and I'm not able to record myself middle east or arabic's ones without "western" touch.
I wish it's possible.
I thank you.
