BRAVO!

Those are really beautiful ouds, Ali!

What kind of bracing did you use, ladder or lattice?

Norumba... Sound samples coming soon for all the ouds and I was almost sure that the 7 course will be the most interesting because it is a really beautiful instrument.. it sounds excellent too... Look in this page in the next 2 days and you'll have a high quality sound sample and a video sample too.

Edward Powel my friend.. this time I went with ladder bracing.. all 5 ouds..
I am making 2 lattice braced ouds at the time being but I am just waiting for a shipment of some carbon fiber and Balsa wood ...

Marina and Charlie.. thanks... the ouds are indeed pretty and I have to thank my friend for his professional photography.

Really fantastic ... that first oud (redwood) really looks special. I have been thinking of getting an Arabic tuned oud to go with my Tasos oud.

Sound Sample of the 7 strings oud

Thank you all for looking at my ouds and for your nice words...

Edward.. I will post pictures of my bracing.. but I think you would be served better if I tell you the bracing plan and the bracing material..it's exact thickness, location, carving and height :)

This is a sound sample of the 7 strings oud played by my friend Moaead.. this was simply an improvisation of a sleep deprived friend.

Tell me what you think...

Cherry Padauk oud

This is a sound of a Cherry-Padauk floating oud with a cedar top.. but the Oud is sold already, sold on it's first day of life! that's why no pictures were shown of this oud. Now the guy says he is willing to sell it back for double the price (3000 USD!!!!!!) .. lol ..

This is again the sleep deprived Moaead playing one of his compositions..

Before anyone asks, there are no effects added to the recording.. simply a good microphone and an excellent soundcard..

The 7 strings oud is tuned C-G-A-d-g-c-f
The Cherry Padauk is tuned F-C-d-g-c-f
The Walnut oud is tuned F-C-d-g-c-f
The Colored oud is tuned E-A-d-g-c-f

SamirCanada.. I have hundreds of pictures of the construction.. I am preparing a full thread on the forum and I will post it in the next 2 days including a detail of the rings.. the redwood oud was easy... it was a Dremel tool fitted on special routing jig (also made by dremel) that I found at a local hardware store together with excellent fine routing bits.

I will be honest .. Dremel rules .. without Dremel this would have been very difficult and not as accurate..

I also used the Dremel tool for the oval holes but I had to make my own oval routing jig.

Cheers..
