A CELEBRATION FOR THE ARRIVAL OF FARUK TURUNZ IN CALIFORNIA

I am going to be hosting a gathering for Faruk Turunz at my home in West Hollywood, California.
Everybody is welcome, of course.
There will be food, drink and, of course, one of the greatest oud makers of all time.
You can email me for details and directions.

NOVEMBER 1, 2009.
2 PM until ?

Dude! Let me explain. I live in Calif. Does that mean I can go to this party? No. Why? Because it would take me 8 hours to drive there, and that's on the 8 lane autobahn, because his house in LA is like 600 km away from mine in SF. I could take a plane, but it would cost me $200 round trip plus a $40 car rental or two $20 taxi rides. So the answer to your question is probably "because Calif is so big" :D

It's a little off-topic, but I'm posting a mileage map of California. One mile = 1.609 kilometers I love geography, and highly recommend a 1974 book, "Historical Atlas of California" ( http://www.amazon.com/Historical-Atlas-California-Warren-Beck/dp/08... ), which is certainly out-of-print, but may be available used. California is a huge and very diverse state whose reality defies almost all of the stereotypes about it.

Among other "oddities," California is home to a Coptic Orthodox Monastery: http://www.stantonymonastery.org/

Peace,
John

Yup, it's a big state. I think the turnout, though, is going to be very very good--I know of one guy that is going to drive 80+ miles to get here (and, considering the traffic, that is saying something).

Just a reminder--this Sunday.
The turnout looks like it is going to be very very good.
Feel free to come (it doesn't matter if you are new to the board, and we haven't met yet). Just email me or u2u me and I will give the details.

Greetings from Sharon Klein to Master Faruk and company. He just left us yesterday, here in the Woodstock area. The luthier show was a tremendous success! Tell him I send my honor and love. BTW, the Nahat you sold me was on display. Faruk called it "a treasure".

Enjoy

Thanks, Sharon. I am so glad that you are enjoying the Nahat. It's probably the only really good oud I have parted with, but my oud collection has just sort of taken over, and I needed to sell. I am happy it has a new, and appreciative, home.
I am so very excited that Master Faruk and company are going to be here. I can't wait.
