How to apply rhythm to a song?

I've been playing uskudar for 2 weeks now with the ayoub rhythm, which is relatively easy. I'm trying to apply maqsum to the song but I'm experiencing difficulty doing so. I can play the basic form of maqsum on the tabla but applying it to the song isn't coming to me.

Any advice?

PS - I'm still alive if anyone is wondering. been busy playing the oud! haha
