p.s. if you cannot open the file, you\ll find the pictures further down, thanks to Aymara and Sazi

p.s. it has a fixed crack on the first rib. Only visible up close. Does not affect the sound. Otherwise it is just perfict.

The sound file was too big. So I do this instead

Of course it is this oud that I used on the take. It is also this oud you see on the main page. Hope you like the music

Hi,

beautiful oud.

Because not many people have the newest MS Office or a DOCX reader/converter installed, I thought it might be helpfull to post a JPG

Luttgutt - 2-2-2010 at 02:46 AM

Thanks Chris!

The only reason I did not do it, is that I don't know how : )

Thanks for the help.

Geko

Just copy the original photo to a different directory/folder (to keep the original untouched) and use IrfanView to make it smaller for the forum ... it's free and easy to use ... and a great, fast photo viewer too. After installing it, you'll find the users manual in the Help menu. Maybe check out the FAQ on the website too.

Hi!

Here comes two more pictures of the Wallnut oud (the one to the right : )

P.s. Sorry guys, but this is the best I could do now. Maybe someone can help converting to JGP file (I don't even know what that means... I've been spending too much of my life playing oud, I did not learn other things

JPG is the file format in which digital cameras usually save photos.

So just copy the photo file to a different directory/folder using Windows Explorer and use IrfanView to resize the photo ... download and install IrfanView first

After starting IrfanView use File/Open to choose the photo and hit CTRL+R to change it's size. Don't forget to save it afterwards

Hey come on ... that's really simple ... if not, ask a friend for a little computer workshop, because this are absolutely basics.

Thanks Aymara!

Trying again : )

It might also help to go into Windows Control Panel and change the Folder Options, so that file extensions of known file types are not hidden. Then photo files will be shown in Windows Explorer like DSC000111.JPG or similar (filename.jpg), depending on what digital camera you use.

Ali - 2-3-2010 at 10:07 AM

What is the sound board made out of?

Luttgutt - 2-3-2010 at 01:22 PM

Hi Ali!

The sound board is aged spruce.

No sound

I`m shure I`d like the music like your picture on the homepage

but I could`t find any sounfile, and there`s no background-music.

I tried firefox and explorer? What went wrong????

Cheers,

Marcus

Luttgutt - 2-4-2010 at 10:45 AM

Hehe

On the top of the page, you'll find 4 icons. One of them is "Musikk" (do you write it the same way in german?).
klikk it.. and hopefully you get the music files.

Please let me know in case it doen't work.

Only with one "k"

Marcus - 2-4-2010 at 11:04 PM

Hi Geko :wavey:

seems like I´m getting blinder every day, hmm, the older I get the more contrast is needed

How I expected.......like the musiK(k) very much. The oud sounds very good to me, and the arrangement and your timing on Bint Shalabya is different to all other versions I know. :applause:

Cheers,

Marcus

Sazi - 2-4-2010 at 11:33 PM

Nice playing from your whole band!

The oud looks and sounds great, even though it is still young.

May I ask why you are selling it?

Luttgutt - 2-5-2010 at 05:43 AM

Thanks a lot for your nice comments guys!

Sazi, I knew this question will come, espesially that the oud is cheap for its quality.
It is good to have "skeptics" on this wanderful forum (I have also played that roll too on this Forum

)

I have went 7-course. And as Katakofka puts it: "when you go there, you don't go back"

These last two years I have had a "oud feaver" (don't we all have that?!

), and bought 6 ouds

and already ordered a new one that will be ready the end of the month

I don't really "want" to sell... but now I realize that my little apartment (40 squar m) is "drawning" in ouds.. and soon there is no place for me

And there is no way I can play all of them. Of course I always only play the last ones

No reason really why I am selling this particular one (eccept that it is the cheepest. And even though it is young, I have 3 younger ouds who need more "care"

So, If anyone is interrested in any other of my ouds (for example the Rosewood oud on 2 of the pictures), no problem, they can buy anyone, as long as I know the oud would be taken care of!

Your web page is missing, and docx files can only be opened with the latest version of MS Office, which I don't have.

Do you have any friends who know how to use a computer?

Victor.

Because I encountered the same problem in private correspondences I installed the ...

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack

... which makes it possible to open Office 2007 file formats with older Office versions (minimum Office 2000).

But as said before ... we should use JPG photos in the forum.

fernandraynaud - 2-20-2010 at 12:53 AM

Luttgutt, your links don't work, but that music sure is beautiful! Listened to that piece several times. Love it! The arrangement is so subtle and unpretentious.

Here is a link that works:

There's a new guy named Physae looking, maybe you would marry off one of your Sukars to him?

kredit - 2-22-2010 at 10:33 AM

Hi guttud!
Im interested in this ud! The price is 800 usd plus shipping? I currently play a conservatory ud from istanbul but want to upgrade and I will love this instrument -if it likes me! Im not sure what else to ask as I am an intermediate player that has spent a few years playing sheet music(khalife, farid)but now will concentrate on taksims, freestyle. Ive bought only one instrument over internet (clarinet) and had to return it so is there a return policy with you? Just in case but it sounds good in that church recording. Aslo, can you explain the floating bridge a bit more? Im very sensitive to intonation and fixed bridge keeps me from tweaking and twisting!thank you very much.james

Luttgutt - 2-24-2010 at 11:27 AM

I am glad to hear that you liked it Fernandraynaud!!

Kredit, yes it is 800 dollars plus shipping.
If you are afraid that you don\t like it, I would advize you to try before bying!

I don\t know what to tell you about floating bridge! I'd say it gives more "attack" style.

Maybe you should get a fixed bridge oud!? More "tarab" style?

Good luck

oudemir - 3-1-2010 at 03:36 PM

Beautiful sounding oud! I loved the recording of Al Bint el Shallabiya! Very intimate, & a good track for people wondering about the sound of this oud.

What microphone(s) was the oud recorded with?

Luttgutt - 3-2-2010 at 06:21 AM

Thanks oudemir : )

I don't know what mic was used. I'll ask. But it was definitly a proffational mic.

Of course! ; ) I was just curious if you knew if it was a large condenser or small condenser type microphone. Beautiful sound no less! The studio room sounds great as well! Must have been fun to record there.

Luttgutt - 3-19-2010 at 02:37 PM

It was a small condensator! And the take was not made in a studio, but in church!
And yes, it was wonderful to play there

P.s. Now I am only playing 7-course ouds.

As Katakofka says it:
When you go there, you don't go back

Sukar Oud still available for sale?

alloushé - 4-28-2010 at 04:05 PM

Hi everybody!

I was wondering if the custom made Wallnut Sukar Oud is always available for sale. I am interested since i am looking for a new oud

Luttgutt: can you please initiate us to the importance or the maybe the advantage of the 7 strings Oud? as i know, the seventh string is the last ''grave tone' one?
what it adds to the intrument? more tonality options, i am interested to know' how do you tune this?

Luttgutt - 4-30-2010 at 05:35 AM

I tune my 7-course ouds to BEEAADDggccff
That simply adds 3 low notes.

But that is NOT the reason why I am sticking to 7-course.

It is the fact that the strings are much closer to each other!
I love it that way.

And now that I am used to 7-course, when I try to play my 6-course ouds my fingers fall the wrong places.
So I had to decide what to play. And I decide to go for 7-course.

i just found this 13 strings on ebay from la bella :

fernandraynaud - 5-1-2010 at 01:10 PM

It's as if the oud can occupy 5, 6 or 7 notes out of the range

B E A D g c f ->

With the option of adjusting the bass to complement the current maqam.

I like C EE AA DD gg cc but retuning the C bam string to B or D on the fly is simple. The common tuning of the E course to an F is also in the spirit of tuning to common maqamat. When you look at it this way, all the nonsense about "the oud can be tuned in a baffling number of regional tunings" goes away. It's always acending fourths, with the bottom "flexible".

To have a set of ff strings is nice even for a 5 or 6 course oud, because you can install them on the top course and install the others a "step" down if you want to have one "solo" oud. Bill Ostrie sells a 0.020" string pair for that at $0.75 to go with the Daniel Mari sets.

Luttgutt - 5-7-2010 at 02:50 PM

Finally I learned how to do it

Video taken with my mobil phone E71. Not a fancy quality, and some horrible overtones on the high strings.. but OK all in all.

fernandraynaud - 5-7-2010 at 03:46 PM

I take that as a compliment

Now Tony, of the two Sukars I posted, do you think any of them sounds like a Sukar?

Who cares

They sound very good, that's what counts.

That was just an "internal" thing going between Tony and I.. nothing serious, just teasing him
