Oud with broken bridge.

ASAL - 5-2-2010 at 01:39 AM

Hey guys.
I have a Sukar Oud.
I've been playing it for a few months and was really happy with it. I used a J95 D'Addario strings with the tuning DGADGC on my Oud. Everything was fine until recently...

The bridge connected to my oud fell off.
I have no idea why.

I've tried to fix it back (using glue) but the bridge fell off again after i've fixed the strings and began tuning it.

I have a question.
Can my oud still be played?
I need help.

Thanks.

Hi ASAL,

I am sorry for your Oud, i remember when in christmas 2001 i have just started to play and the neck got detached. I felt very bad and i understand how you feel. The good new is that your Oud is Still playable but you should get glued the bridge by a professional person in order to do things in the right way for the health of the instrument. I don't suggest you to glue it by yourself, go to the doctor instead :-)

From what I remember that string set is more suited to CFADgc tuning but it's not the likely cause.

1 How did you prep the joint and glue/clamp it? What kind of glue?

2 Do you have access to a luthier, a guitar repair person, a psychiatrist or a priest? The luthier is the preferred resource in that list. Alloushe is right.

i agree, it is not the likely cause, the bridge is not such a sensitive element to a point to crack when we overload it.*
maybe some disfunctional due to the fabrication (?)
