commercially made rosettes?

SamirCanada - 8-9-2010 at 03:34 AM

Anyone know where to find a someone who sells them?

I am repairing a oud which had its plastic rosette broken and making a new one is not something my client and I are interested in.

Thanks,

Samir

You could get one laser cut at a place like this:

As I understand it you draw, they cut.

The problem with commercially available ones, if they are available, is that their size might not match the size of the openings on the oud you are restoring, they might be bigger or smaller.

I would suggest checking with oud makers around for such items, maybe even ask makers in the middle east for such items.

Laser cutting is also an option but I think it will be more expensive especially if you are making a single rosette because of the setup fees.

Hi Samir

I know someone based in Jerusalem who may be able to get some I'm not sure if they are made locally or even in Egypt. I'll make some enquiries and get in touch by u2u.

Great thanks for your help everyone.

The hole in this oud is huge. I would consider the laser but then again it's probably not worth it for just 1 piece. I might just have to make a new one by hand...
