I would like to share with you the oud I have made recentely. I have put the strings just today.
I brought some flamed dark Moroccan Walnut from Marrakech (awsome) and combine it with American swamp ash flamed.
table: european spruce
bridge and pickguard are Rio rosewood.
pegbox and neck, moroccan flamed walnut
fingerboard and pegs: ebony.
I will eventualy sell it in couple of weeks when the oud is tuned.

the sound is also very nice and very powerfull. but I prefer to wait a while before posting.
I alway use frensh polish for the bowl, neck and pegbox.

Sabbassi, your ouds are so beautiful, but I can't agree with the plain round soundholes, they somehow don't fit, oval would look better I think.

Beautiful. You have a really nice aesthetic sense--sometimes the most powerfully beautiful ouds are the ones that are not terribly fussy. This oud
is basic in design, but just powerfully attractive.
I for one love the round soundholes. And, while I'm not a huge fan of ash, this has to be some of the nicest ash I have ever seen.
I am anxious to hear it.
Why did you decide to treat the top with walnut oil? Did you just wipe on a coat of it?

Fernand: thanks for the nice comments, there are so many different combinations men can do. I love oval myself. but this time was round because I
wanted original arabic oud and sound, more egyptian and maghreban. you can also mount rosettes afterwards.
Jonathan. It was not difficult choice. I felt in love with a piece of (Flamed) swamp ash. it is very light but hardwood. the combination with the
flamed walnut is superb.
A light coat of Walnut oil is a very good for the wood, thin, also penetrates into the wood surface and can be reapplied over time a gloss finish can
be obtained and it is moisture resistent. but I haven't applied much.
I played little this morning with it. Im very surprised myself, to my experience, it has a very nice clear and deep sound.. I will post a videos
sometimes next week. but that is something I leave to you guys to judge.
The oud has low action (not too low) and no buzzing at all. very powerfull. I have made some modifications to the braces underneath the top for a
better performance playability.
the bridge is made of Rio rosewood, one of the most accoustic woods, very quick sound transporter and the weight is just about 35 gram.

Well -- what can I say -- you just keep turning out very lovely ouds in both looks and sound. The woods look great together -- walnut is one of my
favorites -- and the ash is exquisite. The oud's got your characteristic clean look -- and the sound's starting out really full bodied as well.

The oud does also need to look nice in my opinion, of course all is about the sound, but nature is also beautiful.
this one has indeed full bodied sound in a silky way if you know what I mean.
