Well maybe the instrument is interesting.

Thank you for your answers

I am agree with you guys, this musician is more special than his instruments !

Yet i think that his oud needs to be more elaborated.

That was excruciating.

fernandraynaud - 2-22-2012 at 04:00 AM

Thank heaven the e-bow doesn't work on the "oud". Magnetism, you know. That's how it could be "elaborated".

Interesting how the comments progressed ;-)

But I wonder where he gets these contraptions! Does he make them ... as well as ... play them?

This brings to mind my favorite (by far). It just gets better and better. Especially after 3:30

This must be the mad heir to the El Fan legacy.

Hey, this guy made a CD of his ähh music?

If I would have known earlier that there are people that buy CD`s with failed impros the market would be overcrowded with mine:D

spyros mesogeia - 2-23-2012 at 04:40 PM

The guys name is Tom Moran,he makes instruments also....
He is a very kind and gentle person,I will not judge his playing, but I think he has an active audience too....
Regards to All

Of course, I'm sure nobody meant anything about his person, it was one of those cases of people enjoying a little venting about his very personal use of these very personal instruments.

The instrument is quite interesting...obviously home-made, it is a nice little thing and it does what it says on the tin. I'd buy it and use it.
As for the player: whoever plays a Peter Laughner song is OK in my book.
And as for his playing: I think the criticism he received is not put in perspective, because people are judging him against all the great and immortal schools of oud playing that we all know and love. Put next to them, of course he's gonna be shoot. But so most of us here in this forum :-) .
Quite simply, his approach on the instrument is not coming from that angle at all. He's using the oud as a tool to express his own thing. And, in my opinion, he's doing it admirably.
I like him. More power to him and his ilk.
