Samir, It will be another beautiful creation. Do you chamfer (plain the top edges ) of the braces or do you leave them flat? Also, in the picture of the top it appears that the fingerboard is higher than the sound board, like a guitar, or is it even with the sound board and inlayed into the sound board?

the fingerboard

samir - 11-14-2004 at 01:32 PM

hi
the finger board comes on the soundboard not inside it.better for positioning..
i chamfer the edges..the ends become thin.
look at the down block , i cave it manualy..this makes the inst. light and sounding..

varnishing it manualy with a piece of cotton..

One Piece Fingerboard

LeeVaris - 11-20-2004 at 03:39 PM

Samir,

Is the fingerboard one piece over the face or is it jointed where the neck meets the soundboard?

tuning

revaldo29 - 11-21-2004 at 10:02 AM

Dear Samir,

What a beautiful oud. I really like the playing in this last taqsim you posted. Is this Iraqi style? I want to try to learn it and I have arabic tuning (CGADGC), would it work out?

ok

samir - 11-21-2004 at 12:56 PM

it was my own way of taqasim (personal)
the tuning was:from low to high : Fa La Re Sol Do Fa
iraqi style is not hard to learn if you listen to Munir Bashir or Naseer Shamma
but i think that Taqasim is just a personal performance..
regards

walkad - 11-22-2004 at 06:48 AM

Mr Samir, it depends on wich level you want to play iraqi style, if you wanna stick to "Fog il Nakhal" song and other basic songs, its not hard.
But playing like Shamma or Munir Bashir is another thing.

Hello Samir,

May it be possible to show the finished product with the strings and everything. If one wanted to order an oud from you , how may we go about doing that.

Thank you,

Rami
