Well... here is the 7 -course oud I got from Samir! This oud has made me re-evaluate my collection! I have fallen in love with the sound of this oud.
I asked Samir to put a dark stain on the face to make it look like an old instrument, though, in retrospect, I think it might have been better to
leave it alone. I can't say enough about the sound though - its simply great! You can see more pictures at:

Sound Sample

Here is my rather crude sample!
Its impossible to fully capture the kind of volume and projection that this oud has.

Man Lee,
What a lovely instrument. The face looks amazing. Unless, the stain has an impact on the sound, I think it was a great idea. It makes it look very
rich. As far as apperances go, the down side of the stained face is that it makes the tuning pegs look out of place. It looks like an old oud with new
pegs. Regardless, it sounds really good. You're sounding better everytime you post a new recording. Congratulations bud, you have really good
taste in ouds. Oh yeah, are you ever going to use Iraqi tuning on it?

Hi Lee,
Congrats on the new instrument my friend. I can't wait to see it in person! Samir did a fantastic job!
Take care,
Mike

How does an oud-maker make a soundboard stained?
Congratulations

Lee
Happy new year and Happy new OUD too
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I love the look of your new oud and I can not get over the sound of it . It sounds very very (can't find enough words).
10/10
How do you tune it?

Emad

What a strange sounding oud: it has very little in common with Bashir models by other makers that I have played and listen too. This oud sounds more
like a classic oud than an oud with floating bridge. Anyway, that maybe was the maker's intention.

What is Bashir Model? do you mean like Munir Bashir's Oud. If so, I know that his oud is Muhammed Fadhel, so can we say Muhammed Fadhel Oud?
Oud Sound
LeeVaris - 1-3-2005 at 11:10 AM
I think you are right Ronny.
Samir's oud has a kind of hybrid sound – it has the kind of echoing ring-out of a Bashir style oud but with a darker overtone quality of more
classic ouds. However, every classic, non floating bridge oud that I've had an opportunity to play seems to have a more closed up nasal sound
(more banjo-like, for lack of a better descriptive term) than Samir's oud. This oud really projects well which is more like the Bashir ouds.
A good Bashir has a more pure, bell-like ring to it though. Yes... the particular floating bridge style oud that Munir Bashir played was made by
Muhammed Fadhel but there are many other makers that build ouds of the floating bridge design and generally we refer to these as Bashir ouds
All in all its a very interesting sound! The sample I posted doesn't quite catch the character of the oud. Perhaps Samir can comment on his
intentions with this design!

Alf Mabrouk for the new oud.
I must say it is in good hands.
On the other hand.. I have been getting congradulations for the oud.
I only wish I could make something half has good. To just say that Iam not a oud maker but a business student from montreal.
unfortunatly the only thing I share Istez Samir from Syria is my name!!
my pleasure

hi my friends
thank you all for your comments concerning my oud to Lee..
of course improving the sound was my main interest,in addition to stability and playability.i think that i gave something new of sounding theory of
the oud..making the sound rich, high, and warm(not much different from the classical one)using the floating bridge most times..
thanx to all

Hi Samir:
Did you ever go to a Oud fesitval in Morocco? I think we met there maybe 5 years ago? My name is Ali, I live in Califorina, and we talk about the ouds
you were making....

Samir Bacha
I did like the sound of Lee's new oud a lot
Congratulations brother for the good work.
I am sure Munir Basher would have liked to play on one of your ouds.

Emad
