Songs on the Oud

TruePharaoh21 - 1-26-2004 at 06:11 PM

I got this idea from Basel when he sang Ya Msaharni. I was thinking maybe we can post some of us playing some popular songs, or posting a rare recording of a composer playing his composition. I found Abdel Wahab play El Watan el Akbar on the oud from his site, http://www.abdelwahab.com/

I personally liked it very much. I guess you can add Afif's playing Enta Omri on here as well, which you can go see at the Takassim of the Week part of his webpage (http://www.afiftaian.tk/).

Anyone else have anything? I'm sure we all have maybe one or two rare things that we can share with one another.

You can also hear him singing a song called Emta T3oud (not the same one as Wadih el-Safi). It has a short takassim in the beginning, and a mawwal as well.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Mawwal on Emta T3oud is excellent! but I still think Farid al Attrache is the king of mawwal...anybody agree with me? :D Any comment Mike?

Oh hey buddy, don't get me wrong. Farid el-Atrache is amazing at mawwal. Just listen to his Awel Hamsa concert, or his Bahebak Mahma Alou Anak concert.

Naseer Shamma vocal/oud

David Parfitt - 2-8-2004 at 06:08 AM

Hi All

I have uploaded a track featuring Naseer Shamma on vocals/oud. I know not everyone is a fan of his stuff, but this one is guaranteed to make your spine tingle!

The words of the song are taken from a poem by Abu Meydan (1126-1197), and it is in maqam Nahawand.

Hussein el-Masry

David Parfitt - 2-10-2004 at 12:57 AM

Hi Spyros

I only met Ziad Rajab briefly in Greece in 2002 at the Thessaloniki meeting, but he seemed like a really nice guy - very modest. I understand he is also a very skilled oud maker. I'm looking forward to receiving your oud photos too!

Here is another vocal/oud track, this time by Hussein el-Masry (who was also at the Thessaloniki meeting). Although he is probably better known for his belly dance stuff, he has also made some nice oud CDs.

Hope you all enjoy this one.
