What is the best way to preserve my Ouds- I mean wn I'm not playing. I have few Ouds and they all pro.
I decided Hanging them on the inside wall at my house over thin Persian carpet. maybe i should add a pic. later today.
My q. is will it harm them? I don't like it wn they r in their cases.....

Hmmm

Interesting topic...I've been thinking what's the best way to store an oud when not played as well. You certainly wouldn't do that with a violin or cello for example - such instruments are always tucked away in hard velvet lined cases and silk coverings and humidifiers. Of course its always safest that an oud is put away in its hard case, but if you have half a dozen ouds, as many around here do, it can be a rather unattractive site!, especially in my case for example where my ouds are scattered around my study.

Is there any harm for a pro ud to be hanged (safely) on a wall? Or to sit it on a guitar strand uncovered (ie room temperature)?

I can imagine that it would be different to have your oud uncased if you live in a extreme environment, like the north pole or sahara desert for example.

 maybe someone can clarify or indicate relevant threads

Cheers

I still like mine out in the open.

I greatly prefer leaving mine in the open. I built some shelves, and lie them on their face, but with some soft foam at the bottom end raising all of the face off of the shelf--the only contact point is at the nut.
I figure that if there is something go on with the oud, I want to see it right away. If it stays in the case month after month, things can get overlooked.
Just my opinion, and I am sure that others will disagree with it. It's sort of like asking how you should raise your kids.
