Removing pickguard

Tarbool59 - 1-18-2009 at 05:40 PM

Hi all,
is it possible to remove the pickguard easily to place it near the "rose"? What are the tools needed if possible.
Thx,

Hi Tarbool59!
I undersdand why you would want to move the pickguard. But what about adding a transparant pickguard as is done with flamenco guitars, insted?!

I dont advise doing that...
there will be residue from where the glue was.

unless you are confident about scraping out the old glue.

Hi Tarbool59,

The pickguard is in one heck of a silly place. I do agree with Samir though, if you want to move it or replace it -- have a luthier do it...or add some of the translucent stuff (as Luttgutt) said -- just make sure it's thin enough so it won't damp the tone. Good luck.

And maybe a newly-appearing area of non-finish, depending ... something to think about

Yup.

Agree, besides making a whole new shape to fit in there between the little soundholes. The jury's still out here on the transparent stickum pickguards, I've only seen them on guitars. I don't go for them, myself. As with many "improvements," some swear by them; I swear at them.
