Yaron,
Here's a link to Jameel's journal where there are photos of the process. If the ribs are the correct shape, the correct angle will produce itself when you sand the edge.

Thanks Tom,
I appriciate your reply, you helped me a lot.
I understand that I can't avoid the sanding to the glue angle...
Can you tell me where can I buy a Turkish style oud plan?

Thanks a lot
Yaron.

Here's a good place to start with the whole process, though not specifically Turkish.

You might also start by searching through previous topics on the "Oud Projects Forum" as the question you are asking has already been covered in detail by others.

A very informative thread, for example, is "My First Oud" posted by Jonathan in October 2005 with lots of helpful input from the many expert oud makers who are members of this forum.

Thank you Tom and jdowning
Is there a place that I can buy/get a copy of a plan? (even for referance)

Regards
Yaron.

You can a complete plan of a Hana Nahat model with the Oud Construction book. You can then use the measurements for a Turkish oud to modify the plans accordingly. I can send you the dimensions if you don't have them.

Thanks Doctor!

yaron naor
the most critical part of the bowl ,is to plane the rib and when you put it on a flat surface ,there must be in contact with it 100%.then it is ready to be glued to the previus rib and all together form the angle..
but!!!!be carefull:all the ribs must be bend the in the same form..if one is not when you try to bring in the previus rib's shape,a gap is created....

so same bending in ribs and 100% contact in a surface....

Too bad - as the article also covers the specifications of the Turkish Tanbur and the Lavta or long necked oud.

I don't read Turkish either but the diagrams and measurements given seem to be self explanatory although no doubt there are many variations to these generalised dimensions among Turkish luthiers. As the article is no longer accessible here is a sketch, for information, of the main proportions of the Turkish oud. The (traditional?) string lengths quoted are 54 cm (girl size?), 55.5 cm (woman's size?), 57 cm ('small' - boy or man size?) and 58.5 cm ('large' - boy or man size?). The overall dimensions of each size may, of course, be calculated from the diagram given the string length.
Note that the bowl is semicircular in section so is half the width of the bowl.
