Shalom Sammy,
"Ya'ala, Ya'ala" can be sung to many different melodies, including the melody, "Ya Tira Tiri" (a Syrian folksong).
"Ya'ala, Ya'ala" sung to "Ya Tira Tiri": http://www.piyut.org.il/tradition/english/617.html?currPerformance=... (Maybe this is the one you were thinking of -- popular w/Halabi Jews?)
You can hear a ROCKIN' version of "Ya Tira Tiri" (AKA "Ya Tera Teeri") by Sabah Fakhri in the original Arabic here: http://www.damascus-online.com/Music/fakhri.htm
Those Aleppo folksongs, "Quddud Halabiyya" are very popular for Jewish piyyutim and pizmonim. You might recognize some other of the Sabah Fakhri
songs, especially "Ya Mal As-Sham," whose melody is used for "Naima Li."
Kol Tuv,
John
