Hey guys
I recently met a friend who owns 3 ouds, one for Shehata, one for Faruk and one for Nazih Ghadban. Below you find the result of comparing Faruk's,
Nazih's and Matta oud on the same audio setting with no sound effects
Hope you find that useful

Hi,
Thanks for your nice posting.
I have been wanting the comparison trial such as this!
I did not hear the people in the video call each oud's maker names.
Are they Shehata, Faruk and Ghadban?
Or Faruk's, Nazih's and Matta?
If so, Matta is equivalent for Shehata?
and What is the order of playing each oud?
Please let me know.
Anyway, I like the last one, being biggest sound.Franck - 5-10-2009 at 06:26 PM
Hi,
I have a preference for Turkish uds but I must say that the Matta oud has a really good deep tone. By the way, is the Türünz ud a Turkish model or
an Arabic model? I know that Mr. Türünz builds both types of uds.katakofka - 5-10-2009 at 08:32 PM
First oud, Faruk
Second oud, Nazih
Third Oud matta
Faruk's oud is turkish model but arabic tuning
Here is Adel and me fooling around with Enta Omri. I am playing Faruk's oud and Adel playing Nazih's oud.
Some Audio files
Turunz oud has Labella string with Nylon g
Matta oud has Pyramid orange labeled string with a wound g stringskatakofka - 5-12-2009 at 07:53 AM

Great post Souheil. Really interesting to hear all three in fairly comparable conditions. I've always wanted to do something like this. If any oud
makers want to send me free samples for the purpose of comparison, I'm very open to offers!Luttgutt - 5-13-2009 at 01:46 PM
Thanks for the post Katakofka!!
I have to say that your Matta oud is the best Matta oud I have heard!
I don't have any Matta oud, but I have tried at least 5 of them. And none is half as good sounding as the one you have!
Play it in good health : )katakofka - 5-26-2009 at 07:53 AM
all matta ouds sound great as seen above. You may have probably played Matta ouds with 3 holes. All ouds in the video above have one hole.

This model is a success. But if you tried at least 5 of them and non is half as good sounding as the one Kata has... I think it's either a bit
exaggerated or an extremely bad statistical coincidence...Luttgutt - 5-26-2009 at 02:21 PM
Well, yes. All the ones I played were with 3 holes. The old model as ou call it!
But I never said they were not good!! I liked all of them (exept for one- one of them was not so good. And that was not just my opinen!)..
But I think that katakofka's first Matta oud has something ekstra! it sounds better then all the rest! That is all : )
And I still think so after hearing the comparition of the 3 matta ouds!
Love all of them, though

WOW! These are all great sounding Ouds, but I like the sound of the Matta one best. Thank you for this, Katakofka!

Welcome !
It's true the turunz is the best balanced oud. His ouds are piece of arts. However, I have a preference for larger bowl to get a good base sound.Reda Aouad - 5-28-2009 at 05:45 AM
Souheil, what are the dimensions of the bowl of your Matta? And string length?katakofka - 5-28-2009 at 05:48 AM
I don't recall Reda. I'll get back to you on that from homekatakofka - 5-28-2009 at 06:00 AM
I found it in an email)
the Rosewood oud
bowl: 52 cm long, 35 cm large, deep 19cm
The Maple oud
50, 36, 19
both are 60cm string lenght
Reda Aouad - 5-28-2009 at 06:02 AM
Do you find any difference in holding and playing them? Do the dimensions affect their playability? Or are they equally easy to play?katakofka - 5-28-2009 at 06:04 AM
the Maple oud is easier to play and to holdkatakofka - 5-28-2009 at 06:11 AM
also, the fingerboard is smaller in the Maple oud. At the joint to the bowl it's 5.8 cm at the nut 3.8 cm. The other is 6.1cm at the joint and 4cm at
the nut. For a 7 string oud the new model is much easier to play. But for my big hands I have no problem with bothReda Aouad - 5-28-2009 at 06:17 AM
3.8 cm width at the for a 7-course? Isn't it very narrow?
The fingerboard of the 7-course Ghadban I ordered will be 4.2 cm wide at the nut.muhrvis - 6-2-2009 at 09:48 PM
Wow, Souheil. Wonderful comparison. I like them all, each has a different personality.
I wish I could hear you could play my Ghadban Nahat style oud. It is a real big one. It has really nice balance from low to high, but of course I
can't play it like you! :-)
Are any recordings of your playing available?Oud Freak - 6-4-2009 at 03:21 AM

photos...
