What kind of stand ??

spartan - 6-3-2009 at 03:37 AM

I dont know if this question has being discussed at another thread, I didnt find something from a search.

I would like to know what kind of stand is suitable for the oud
I found only guitar stands .

Traditionnaly ouds were hanged bu the wall, but I m not sure that this is the best way.

Some others leave them on the case.

Any other suggestion will be helpful .

Hi spartan,
I have also thought about this problem recently and got to the same result: the guitar stand. Yet my Oud is on the sofa.

I am thinking of something that can hold the oud high from the floor or the sofa to be away from kids hands. My tries did not succeed yet :(

I have seen this on ebay but not sure if it is practical or not

:(

You should asq some luthier if it is OK to hang ouds like this. The pegbox - neck point is not the strongest point. You can hang guitars - the pegbox & neck are not separately made as in ouds....

It's for playing (made by Shehata), I love its sound, and I would like to keep it in the best situation I can.

So I 'm wondering which is the best way to keep it when I dont play it....

Thanks all members for all their concern.

Guys some guitar stands fits to ouds, or at least to some ouds. I have a friend of mine who has one which suits well to the oud. I went to a guitar shop and didn't find this one but other stands which would not fit, so you just need to look after and be lucky. You can go to music shop with your oud and try all the stands you see. Good luck!

If it's truly a nice oud that you wish to maintian, then I learned from my friend Souheil (katakofka), that it's ok to leave on a guitar stand but it's more important to keep it in an environment that is warm and at an average of humidity of 50. Otherwise the wood, especially an unfinished soundboard, will be very susceptible crack and damage. If you don't intend to play the oud for a long time then it's also important to detune the strings to relieve the tention on the oud. Many thanks to Souheil for this advice.
