How many people play non-maqam music?

fernandraynaud - 8-10-2009 at 02:41 AM

Dear members,

I am new here amidst ~ 1700 fascinating people, and curious about many things, I wish there were a way to set up a little poll.

Are there many members here who play/love the oud but have never learned maqamat at all? How many have only learned a tiny bit?

Another question if I may. How many people mainly play with their fingers or other non-reesha ways ?

(not that it's better or worse, separate subject)

Thank you!

Hi Fernand.

Just to let you know that you can click on "New Poll" to create a poll !

As for the questions.. I don't fit. I learned maqamat and play with the traditional risha.

I bought my oud to learn maqamat. Always used a risha but still haven't found one that's just how I want it.

Oh, Doh, sorry. OK, I put a poll up. Thanks!

Hi,

To answer your first question, The only time that i play non maqam when i smoke 'weed' or 'mariwana'. But i started oud playing some simple songs and then start to learn maqams. You can not play music without maqams or scales.

I play spanish music, You can call flamenco arabic version and i used my fingers but it is very limited, like for few seconds during the play, but not as main playing techniq.

Thanks
