I know that Hijazkar maqam has been discussed a lot, thanks to our experienced members BUT :
I recently listened 2 beautiful taqassims from George Michel and Riad Al Sunbati.
On these 2 taqassims the seyir introduction is from the Rast (C or Do) position instead of Kurban .
I also heard a hijazkar kurd taqassim from Farid that does the same thing.
Theoritically this is not the hijazkar seyir right?
But why these oud masters make such a seyir?

Hi,
In Arabic music and Greek rebetiko/folk music, you often hear hitzazkar played like zirguleli hitzaz, which has a similar basic scale.
Also in some folk songs and vocal songs from Turkey/Asia Minor, you hear this too.
This is why you hear the discrepancy. My advice is that you study this makam using Ottoman compositions, the older the better, and have a clear
understanding of the seyir and melodic movement/changes that typically happen.
Take care,
mavrothis
