If this thread is still going on, what do you all think of Maqam Rast?
Thanks,

Naw, I've already noodled long enough on that one :)

BTW, do our MidEastern members know this expression? It's a classic in the studio, the producer behind the glass says to the musicians something like "hey, you, with the long hair, at measure 134, why don't you noodle in A for a while!" :)

Hijaz

I have just joined Mike's Ouds Forums.
I have been playing the Oud for about 5 years.
I also really like Hijaz, especially the change from Rast to Nahawand on 4 on the way down, this always sounds dramatic for me.
I just returned from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Turkey, and heard Hijlaz all the time., as well as Bayati, Saba, Rast, etc.
I wil try to post a Taqsim soon.

Sydney
I was wondering if you could give me some more info about the long neck Fathi Amin oud ?
My first question is ,could you tell me on what note the neck and body meet ? for example
on a regular oud,if the first string is tuned C , Then ,where the neck and body meet, would
be G , Right? so what it that on your long neck Oud?
My seconed question is ,Do the Higher notes in the extra lengh of this long neck Oud
respond well if you want to use them ?Or How do they respond?
And My third question is that do you know Mr. Amin still makes long neck ouds (I could
not find that style in his website) ?
Thank very much
Ali

Yahoodi1 that is not hijaz, it is nahawand on sol. They share the same notes but are not the same maqam. Lamma bada is often refered to as maqam farahfaza and not nahawand because traditionaly maqam nahawand sits on the note rast (do in arabic tuning) and farahfaza on yegah (the low sol), but in fact maqam ferahfaza is a turkish makam and it has its own characters and not just the tonic that seperates it from nahawand, so I say this song is nahawand on sol.

Nakriz:
East Europeans use this maqam as well especially gypsies who made good use of this maqam to express their miserable live.
