Peg Problem

Hi, I've just bought a secondhand Ali Khalifeh & Sons Oud. I'm very happy with it, but am having some problems with the pegs, or at least I seem to be. Up to this point I've mainly been a guitarist, and have absolutly no experience of wooden tuning pegs. So possibly the 'problem' is just normal behaviour for a wooden ungeared tuning peg. I'll describe it.

Basically, they seem to be very jerky, and not at all smooth. Even with alot of patience, I really struggled to get it in tune, it kept jerking either sharp or flat of where I needed it to be. I was wondering if it needs attention from a luthier, or possibly a violin/cello workshop. Or is there some kind of lubricant required? any advice would be welcome.

Many Thanks - Mark

Sticking pegs and/or sticking strings? - a common problem that has been discussed many times on the forum. Do a search for 'sticking pegs' and you will likely find a solution.
