I couldn't see a 0.023 and didn't know whether you want steel or nylon, but I think you might like to look anyway as the strings are quite
interesting.
BTW I like your work on the MANY ragmakamtar and your ingenuity and energy are a pleasure to see, I also took a look at some of your recordings on
youtube, and enjoyed many. keep it up.

...actually I have some of those Thomastic strings which are great - but they have a steel core which is not metalic for oud...
rather I am looking for a regular DD string for oud (wound 0.023 silk and silver I guess), and a 0.018 same material. I guess the Pyramid lute
strings have this but I can't locate them.

Hi Edward - if you are referring specifically to Pyramid strings this may be of some help.
For d pitch (147 Hz at A440 standard pitch), Pyramid stock 13 types of wound string for lute covering string lengths 57 cm to 65 cm and tensions
between 2.02 to 3.54 Kg. (see the attached tension table).
I happen to have two of the types listed available - the 906 which measures 0.0185 inch diameter (0.47 mm) and the 1010 at 0.0217 inch diameter (0.55
mm). As you can see from the table the 1010 covers string lengths up to 60 cm and the 906 from 60 cm to 65 cm. These two strings are silver plated
copper wire wound on nylon filament.
I also have Pyramid 1012 which measures 0.0232 inch diameter (0.59 mm). This could be used for the d course but tensions would be higher from about 4
Kg for 57 cm string length to about 5.1 Kg for 65 cm. At 60 cm string length tension would be about 4.4 Kg - all a bit on the high side it would seem
(and might break at these tensions?) - unless of course you drop the pitch by a full tone to A392 standard.
For the complete set of Pyramid lute string tension tables go to my topic 'Pyramid String Tension Tables' posted on the forum back in Sept. 2006 to
download. They are a handy reference if you do not have the Pyramid lute string slide rule (which only costs about 14 Euros from Pyramid strings).

...ok this is great. I have just written to PYRAMID as they admit on their site that the best thing to do is to write them with questions because
there is so much available and it can be confusing... so let's hope they can tell me what is available.
I really think I need a wound 0.018 for my new instrument... even the PVF 0.062 doesn't quite sound as it should....

Matthias Wagner in Germany is a good source for Pyramid strings.
The 0.018 wound string is PY9075.
