STRINGS/TUNING

I have a question regarding string tuning..I was given a Shehata oud as a gift..And this Shehata Oud is differernt in the scence that it seems that it was made for Turkish Tuning EABEAD..This is the only tuning that sounds good and the action of the strings seems fit..Does this mean when i purchase strings that i get them with this tuning..Or do you guys think i maybe have arabic tuning strings and then tune it to EABEAD..I placed a purchase for light tension Aquila strings with EABEAD for my Shehata..But I was thnking should i have purchased Arabic tuning strings instead and then tune it to EABEAD...Someone pleae help..?

Tell us about your oud. What is the scale length? Thats the most important factor in determining the tuning of your oud. By all means, if you have Arabic strings on your oud, DO NOT tune the oud to Turkish tuning, you could damage the oud with such high tension. What strings are you using now?

By the way, I'm the person you placed the order with. I haven't shipped your order yet, so it's a good thing you posted. Lets' try to get you the best set for your new Shehata!

24.7 inches is 62.7cm

To use Turkish tuning you want a string length of 58.5cm

I think it would be a very bad idea to keep this oud tuned to EABEAD

im not sure what strings are on there now..But they are the strings that came with the oud..And when we tune it to ARabic tuning it doesnt sound good and the action is saggy..When we tune it to EABEAD it seems perfect for this oud..This oud is not like other Shehatas..My brother has a Shehata and its totally diffeernt from this one..His is tuned Arabic..But this one is only right with Turkish tuning..Do you think i should just go with the Aquila turkish tuning set..?

hmm you could try the Aquila arabic strings. I don't play arabic oud but I've always heard they have a higher tension than most arabic strings. That could help.

You might have some extra thin strings on it, thus the floppiness, but even at 63cm a Turkish set of strings tuned Arabic should give decent playability. I wouldn't keep an oud of this scale length tuned Turkish at all. That could be very dangerous. The light tension Aquila strings at Arabic tuning and 63cm scale will be at about 3.8kg. This is like medium-high tension. By the sounds of your description you seem to like high tension, so I would recommend these.
