What do you think about this french made oud ?
This a link to french luthier's Pilippe Bodart oud, just made specially for algerian-french jazz oudist Faysal Salih
http://www.amagalerie.com/p.bodart/index.php?numfiche=1173
Spruce on the face, harmonic table
Walnut tree for the Hexagone decoration around rosette
Mapple and walnut tree for the behind
Poplar tree for the mastil
Mapple again for the keys, i think...

I think it just looks long because of the angle of the photo.

In the old days in Australia the name we used for the humble pickup truck was a "Utility" or "Ute." I believe, in that context, it was meant to be a
shortened version of the word, "utilitarian." It described a vehicle that had little to commend it aesthetically, but did the job for which is was
designed.
Perhaps Pilippe Bodart designed this instrument with the same end in mind.

Greg

I do not agree with you Greg.
I find this oud very nice.
Especially the bowl.
And the soundboard very white.
Maybe an european taste ???

Hi Zalzal,
Since the work is so understated, and clean -- the bowl woods might look better in person. Did you get a chance to play it ?? How's it sound ?? Thanks
for the photos.

Nice Greg....nice
I am a minimalist.....But I find this oud way too minimal - at least you would go for purfilng around the sound board and sound holes...

PaulO, I found it while surfing on the web.
No i haven't had the chance to play it.
Here is a page of a musician who has one oud fm the luthier Philippe Bodart (sorry i misled you, the name is Philippe not Pilippe).
I also believe like Microber that the oud is european styled. Very white face...And also with Melbourne and Greg; is very minimaliste and
aesthetically poor.
Nevertheless it seems well finished.
What is a mistry for me is the woods used.
Never heard on walnut, mapple and poplar tree woods for an oud.
May be these are woods very tonal...that is what intrigued me and if anyone can give an advise on the woods used ......
Finally it is funny that the deco around the rosette is a hexagone...In France, french people used to call their country...the hexagone.
So looking at the oudyou can cry 'vive la France' !!!

Jason you are right the pegbox is a mess. The strings do not go to the right peg. I am sure the pegbox is mapple but the keys...may be walnut ???.
And this little piece between pegbox and mastil seems not equilibrated. First string is farther fm the second that the second with the others.
