right-hand position - first pluck
Hello All
Sorry another newbie question! This may be a stupid one!
When you place your right hand in front of the oud ready for plucking, how would you know which string is the closest to you? and your hand always
lands at that position?
Let me explain. When I start to play, I have to pluck the string closest to my hand in order to find out where my hand is before moving to the string
I intend to pluck first time. I would like to avoid this unnecessary first pluck. Is there any tip that you use to quickly determine where your hand
is. I know this may come with experience but am wondering if there is anything that could help!
Many Thanks in advance
Jaafar

Dear Jaafar,
Do not think where the hand is (for now), just look at the string and pluck. Your question is OK, the "first" pluck is difficult for some period, and
players newer talk about this. Just keep trying. Keep in mind that the things ARE MUCH MORE SIMPLE than it seems to you right now.

I agree. Although it seems very easy to do after a while, it is not at the beginning. Just forget about it for now. Concentrate on more important
things now as a start and you will get used to it without noticing. Don't think about it. It will come along by itself.

Hey Jaafar
You could try this simple exercise as it may help you get used to where the strings are.
Lightly place the risha on a string, play the string and immediately replace the risha on the string you have just played. Repeat many times. Then
do the same with all strings. Regards C
