loose "D" string?
hi. I have a maurice shehata oud... very nice oud, beautiful sound.
My ONLY problem is how loose some of the strings sound...
I tune my Oud CFADGC, and I use Pyramid Oud Strings .. I think it actually only comes with 5 sets of strings and then I get an additional one for my
highest pitch C string... (I get my strings from Yehia at nileshop).
Anyways. My "D" string, sounds a bit "loose"... So do my C, F, and A string, but not as bad as my D string... I know I'm
tuning it correctly...
Anyways.. does anyone else have this problem? is it common? is there a way to fix it? etc...
let me know what you people think

Hey john,
Are you sure that you have the right pitches on the right strings? Maybe the original strings were missing the lowest C and no the highest. I
purchased aquila nylgut strings for my new shehata and the sound great.

Tuning
John,
I'm perplexed by your statement that you get an extra C string for your HIGHEST PITCH ?
The highest pitch C (closest to the floor) should have come in a pair already. If you needed a single string it would have been for your LOWEST pitch
(closest to you).
Are you sure you got them tuned right ?
Spyros C.

Hey guys I know what the problem is. The strings that John is using are not the Pyramid brand, no, they are the "3 Pyramids" brand. These
strings have very low tensions and they are probably not intended for the Arabic oud (but what else would they be for????), I think they are made in
Syria. What gave it away is that Spyrosc remarked the extra C. My advice John, get Aquila strings.
If the Shehata ouds are being shipped with these strings, that would explain the low sound levels.

to be honest... i forgot which string came as an extra pair....
in think it was the lowest pitch C string actually... ya... that sounds right...
Does this change your advice? i'm sure i'm tuning to the right pitch...
where can I get these nylgut strings? how much do they cost...
Thanks everyone

Hi Jhon
I think that the selection of your strings is wrong of me. I think that oud string set that Yehia of Nile Shop sent you is an orange label of Pyramid.
String that you need is Low C. String set that Yehia sent you as a spare is a set for the tuning as FAdgcf. Therefore, <d> string becomes string
of plain. I think that it becomes Low tension very much when making it to your tuning with the oud string set. Low string of the pyramid is added to
my Shehata oud. Details of Low string are the following.
The low C-6th string would costs Euro 1,38 (this string would come as a single string).
The complete set 11-string set # 650 /11 would cost you Euro 7,21
By the way, Low 6th string can be substituted also with 6th string of a classic guitar. How
if it tries?
Regards
