What am I listening to?
Here are two different sound samples of the same oud

I realize this is something the guy made himself, but I like the clean, deep, sound.
I don't have the ear though to know what's going on.
Is this an arabic style oud?
Can you tell what it is tuned to?

This is an Armenian-Turkish style oud.
In one video the tuning is E AA BB ee aa dd, which is the typical Armenian-American tuning. In the other video it is the same arrangement of strings
tuned one step low to D GG AA dd gg cc. To tell the tuning on any oud video, watch the hands of the player. Whenever an open *course* (pair of
strings) is played, check the pitch against a fixed pitch instrument like piano or an electronic tuner or whatever is around.
For the four highest courses all you need to catch is one pitch. If the first string is c, or a bit above or below, then you know that the others are
g, d, and A.
