Buying oud in Cairo 2025?
Hi all,
(I know this is a topic that keeps coming up over the years, but I am wondering if there's any update...)
A friend who has been learning the oud for about a year on a basic Zeryab model has the chance to go to Cairo in the end of the year, and has been
asking me if it is worth trying to get an oud there. I am wondering if there are any makers we can contact, or are there any trustworthy shops where
ready made ones can be tried? Combing through previous threads (such as https://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=18997#pid12... and https://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=18760#pid12... ) , the sites of some of the makers like Maurice Shehata and Mostafa Dagher are no longer working. We are not exactly looking for $300
ouds...probably more like under $1000. Wonder if anyone know what the scene is like there and have suggestions - for either custom-made and picking up
there, or shops. Many thanks in advance!

There was a guy on here going by Sam Ouds that seemed to be making pretty nice ouds mostly in the $600-1200 range. He's on Instagram too.
