If you look at magdy el ashmawy's oud they have a short body wich makes it look like the neck is long. I think the neck is actualy a little bit longer
too.

Samir is right. I think that El-Ashmawy built an oud with a shortened body, which allowed him to have a fingerboard of a full octave rather than a
fifth without having longer strings and uncomfortable fingerings.

Long neck
Al halabi, and everybody
Thanks for your posts.
I think Eng. El Ashmawi does not make them. All I know is that he came up with the design I could be wrong ... maybe he did not. But I am sure he does
not make them.
Eng. El Ashmawi does not give measurements of the oud too. I am not sure if Eng. El Ashmawy can help since he is a member in the forum now.
I have seen one Egyptian oud with a long neck. The size on Barbat site maybe designed for Iranian tuning but not for arabic otherwise it will be one
and half tone short. The length of the neck should be a full octave at the end of the neck if we go by a roughly 61 cm vibrating length.
Any more inputs?
Kind Regards,
