what is material used in this rosettes?

It is called Abalam. It is supposed to resemble abalone. It is made out of natural shell.
In the picture above, I had sanded it down a bit with sandpaper to get some of the shine off of it. It was just too shiny. I think it turned out
fairly well, however, with just some areas shining through.
It is lightweight, and very easy to work with, but expensive.
I had not planned on using it again just because of the expense, but I saw pictures of a mother of pearl version of it that looked very very nice.

I think I bought a quarter sheet, and it cost around $60, but I have truthfully forgotten. A quarter sheet was actually a bit too much abalam. The
name of this particular color was Paua rim, or something like that.
