Broken oud neck
If I receive an oud with a broken neck, can I just glue it back on? Or is that a pointless thing to do?

the dowel must be drilled out and the excess glue cleaned off. the end of the neck must fit precisely on the neck block so that the neck is very
slightly set back 1-2 mm at the top nut. It certainly is worth doing, if you have the skill or can get it to someone who does.

hey thanks!
I might be able to pull the "neckjob", but...!
...I just found out it also has a major crack in the back:

Darn it! I bought this oud for my kid brother to play around with it after he saw me banging away on my ouds. I had a pleasant experience with the
seller I bought it from so I thought... but the packaging was nowhere near to being protective for the oud: a cardboard box with some bubblewrap
around the oud in the SOFTcase.
I could send it back but that would cost me more money, etc. Oh well, it's a good thing it wasn't expensive. I received two ouds today: this one and
the Mohamed Khalefah one (see ouds ouds ouds). It's also a good thing it was THIS one that came broken...

Take the oud over your head and under a light.
While looking inside the hole of the oud. Look where the light is comming from and so thats where the crack is on the inside.
now take some wood glue on your thumb(or any finger) and press it down along the crack. It should come back out the other side so you will want to
remove that glue on the bowl. It should fix it you can also put a peice of brown paper bag along the crack.
dont forget to wash your hands after..

-sounds ok except for the brown paper bag. This material is made from who knows what fibers, miscellaneous chemicals and is not a good choice gor
reinforement. Go to an art or craft store and get some parchment paper/ It's pure cellulose fiber (like wood) and will last longer and provide more
strength than sa shopping bag. Rub glue into the paper brfore applying it over the crack to infuse the fibers and make it evern stronger.
