Loud Ouds??

Dear members of the forum. I will soon be ordering a custom made oud and i want it to be loud. I was hoping some of you would be able to give some input. I am thinking about a floating bridge oud with a single soundhole, no rosette, most likely a rosewood back and spruce face with no decoration. Do you think this will give the best projection? I would love to hear everyones ideas before i consult with the oud maker.

thank you
hamed

Hi,

It depends on so many things, Such as how old is the wood? and the Glow quality that the maker use? and the skills of the maker and good he is? and it doesn't mater if the oud has decoration or not.

Any way, If you want to order loud Volume sound oud, i recommand Mr.Faruk Turunz oud and Yaroub Mohammad Fadel. The reason why i am recommanded these two because i used and played there ouds, and they are really loud. I dont know about the other makers. I am sure that the members here will help you on that.

cheers

I think going with one sound hole for volume is mistake by experiance it isnt as loud.

Yaroub and Faruk are great choices regardless of how you want the oud to sound. I doubt Faruk will make a floating brige oud though.

this oud was loud... its made by Maurice Shehata.

Mr. Turunz ouds are very loud. Mustafa Copcuoclu's ouds are very loud. Dimitris Rapakousious' ouds are very loud. Viken Najarian's ouds are super loud. But there are many kinds of loud; loud to the player but not at a distance and loud with projection at any distance. I am only familiar with Turkish-style ouds but have played one Bashir style oud with a floating bridge that was quite loud. All three makers mentioned above are very consistent in the quality of their instruments and we're talking about new instruments. The loudest oud I ever played was an Onyk Karibyan and it was like a firearm. It made my ears ring. You could kill small animals with the sound, knock rats off the telephone wires half a mile away with it. Its owner named it "Dirty Harry".

Get a Turunz like the one Celik plays if you want loud; same wood, same bridge.

thanks guys, i was thinking of either Dimitris or Yaroub, i may just get a normal bridge from dimitris, his ouds have a very unique sound that i really like.
Samir, I'm also thinking of Tayyar bros, you've heard thier ouds live, what do you think? I'd rather get a oud with one sound hole, but if it hinders volume.....
Thanks for your input.
thank you

here are some attachments from my last cd project
it is tunned at 415 Hz,because I play on duet with a Baroque Luthe,
Believe me,at 442,it's much louder, and with much more sustain.....I will post some attachments and with this tunning if you wish, but after a month, you see I will be in Greece for a month and I will have only one of the Turkish type with me.
The tunning that I use is ff,cc,gg,DD,AA,EE,D'.
If you need more details please contact me,it will be my pleasure to respond to all your questions.
Best Regards
Spyros

Also I personally prefer the soundboard to be unvarnished. This oud has an aged German Spuce soundboard.

The bowl is two types of pallisander, the fingerboard is ebony and the pegs too,and the soundboard is aged German spruce unvarnished. The strings are simple d'adario.Yes the string length is 57 cm.
The oud is two years old,4 seasons.Believe me,It is very loud, and it has a warm wooden sound. It is tunned at 415 hz,and not at 442 [that is usually tunned].And it is with simple strings.....:).
Best Regards
